Labor’s candidate for the Victorian seat of Melton has quit, citing family reasons, less than a month out from the state election.
Victorian Labor is rushing to find a candidate for the November state election after a late scratching for a lower house seat.
Party state secretary Samuel Rae on Thursday advised that candidate Justin Mammarella had withdrawn from contesting the seat of Melton for family reasons.
“The Labor Party will quickly pre-select another candidate,” Mr Rae said in a statement.
“We are confident that Labor will provide the electorate of Melton with a strong and committed candidate.”
Melton, on Melbourne’s western outskirts, has made headlines during the current parliament.
Incumbent MP Don Nardella quit the Labor party and sat as an independent after being forced to resign his position as deputy speaker after claiming a second residence allowance.
Victorians go to the polls on November 24.
